GovMap.il

ArchiWind supports uploading wind data from the GovMap Wind Atlas, a public resource developed by the Israeli government to provide long-term wind potential estimates across the country.

This data can be downloaded as a CSV file, which contains wind statistics for specific points on the map. These files are based on simulations covering a 30-year period and are meant to support decisions related to wind turbine placement, but can also be used for pedestrian wind comfort studies.

File structure

  • Plain text, comma-separated.
  • File extension .csv or .CSV, maximum 200 KB.
  • Line endings: CRLF (Windows) or LF.
  • A location line and the relative air density come first, then one group of tables for each height: 30, 60, 100 and 150 m.

Each height group contains these tables. The title lines must stay as exported, because ArchiWind finds the tables by their title. The rows below each title are read by position, so keep them in exported order.

Title lineRowsUsed by ArchiWind
Wind Speed at <H> meters [m/s]1No
Power Density at <H> meters [W/m^2]1No
Weibull A Parameter at <H> meters [m/s]13 (directions 0–12)Yes
Weibull K Parameter at <H> meters13 (directions 0–12)Yes
Directional Frequency at <H> meters [%]12 (directions 1–12)Yes

The 100 m group also has Capacity Factor and AEP tables, which are not used.

Rows and columns

Every table row has 14 comma-separated numbers:

ColumnContent
1Direction sector: 0 = all directions, 1–12 = 30° sectors
2Whole year
3–14January to December

Sector 1 is centred on north (345°–15°), sector 2 on 30°, and so on clockwise to sector 12 on 330°. ArchiWind uses sectors 1–12 only.

How the data is used

  • The Meteorological data recorded height you choose with the upload (30, 60, 100 or 150 m; default 150 m) selects the height group that is read.
  • Directional frequencies are normalised per period, so a column does not need to sum to exactly 100%.
  • Summer and winter statistics are combined from the monthly columns.
  • The optional Roughness length (0–0.7 m, lower than the chosen height) describes the terrain at the location.
  • After uploading, ArchiWind shows a preview of the yearly frequency, Weibull A and Weibull K of each sector at the chosen height.

Rejected files

All four heights are checked on upload, whichever height you choose. A file is rejected if, for any of 30, 60, 100 or 150 m:

  • the Weibull A, Weibull K or Directional Frequency title line is missing;
  • any of the 12 sector rows does not hold exactly 14 comma-separated values, or columns 2–14 are not all numbers;
  • the directional frequencies of a period (the whole year or any month) are all zero.
